History
The history of the Military Communications Institute - National Research Institute
The origins of the Military Communications Institute date back to 1951, when Order No. 077 - now historic - of the Chief of the General Staff on the establishment of the Scientific and Research Communications Training Ground in Zegrze was published. The main tasks of the newly established scientific and research facility included the adaptation of some existing civilian equipment for military use and the design of field communications apparatuses, necessary for the completion of communications nodes.
The fact that the scientific level of the research was increasing contributed to the renaming of the Training Ground as the Communications Equipment Research Center (OBSŁ) in 1958. Then, in 1965, under a resolution of the Council of Ministers, the Center was named the Military Communications Institute (MCI). The new name sanctioned the high rank of the institution in the Ministry, and on a national scale the Institute became an important center for the development of technical thought in the field of military communications.
In 1997, the Institute was named after Professor Janusz Groszkowski. On September 4th 2020, the Council of Ministers issued the Decree on granting the Military Communications Institute the status of a state research institute.
